Star Wars Rise of SkyWalker

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019)

I have my ticket scheduled for 12-18-2019 6:30pm and I've seen every Star Wars Movie on opening night since the very first one. I'm an old guy that still likes these movies and hate hearing about it from someone else.  The online land of trolls makes things worse these days and they get pretty stupid so I go and see it for myself. I'm mainly focused on the movies here because the other stuff was not part of the Lucas vision, so in my opinion, it does not really count for crap.

Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker 12-18-2019 11:00 pm

It is not a BAD movie it's just not great!

Watch it for yourself but for this life long Star Wars movie fan/follower that saw the original in the theaters as a kid in 1977 and has seen everyone on day one since then. I now say, I'm glad that we had Rogue One and have The Mandalorian.

Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker is this most unimaginative movie in this Skywalker franchise from the space battles, to a ton of "acts" that looked like they were throw in with no thought what so ever. The story flow and dialog is a train wreck; Solo was written and flowed better than this mess.

Some complaints from those that feel we should fall in line, accept this and just like it!

  • Fans are but hurt they did not get what they want! We learned over the past 5 movies that was not happening anyways!
  • Just a Hater: Stick it!... I bought my two tickets 2 months before the showing and purchased it for a Thursday night.
  • Get a life it's a movie: No!, I have to put with your stupid political sheep herding crap you can deal with our Star Wars
  • Catered to much to the fans! It did not even try to do that it catered to political correctness.

If you are a die-hard fan that follows everything StarWars (I'm not one of those), this movie is GOING to piss you off because they took a massive dump on it and everything that has transpired though the last eight movies

The two biggest letdowns for me is that from 1977 to 2019 these IDIOTS could only manage to come up with one really good light saber fight sequence... really!?! {Phantom Menace}

For the second one it was the final battle because someone in the graphics department needs to tell the "BAD GUY" fleet designer to lay off the copy-paste. The old school naval style slug fest that made up some of the previous movies was a plus for me. Different style ships punching away at each other because it takes a big ship to take out another big or a bunch of little ones working together. The civilian fleet showing up to battle a Sith Mega military fleet is just moronic!

I managed to sit through it, so that is a plus and a few funny moments helped but I have no desire to see this again, once is enough.

comments below are from online discussions about the movie

If you have not seen it STOP READING!!!

"I personally don’t like the movie but many will SO GO see it AND DECIDE for yourself. My “in a nutshell” problem with it is lack of imagination because it basically just takes bits and pieces from the other movies and rehashes them again. (Like Jurassic Park does) Ignoring the little things that make Star Wars awesome. It should have been in two parts so it could show us what was going on instead of telling us by rushing through everything. The new powers are pretty cool and a well-written story would have been badass." - JT

"I could have dealt with the choppy story-line if the final space battle(s) and light saber fights were done well, which has always been my favorite part…BUT… the tactics defeating the fleet and the "Final Order" fleet itself is moronic which I will add is the laziest CGI fleet EVER created for a motion picture. Copy/PASTE and all with planet-killer weapons but yet these SITH engineering masters did not think of the fact that if you shoot the big gun you blow up the whole ship. I guess they did not pay attention to the history of the Empire's poor success rate or clearly never watched Independence Day. " - JT

They needed ONE little tiny antenna to control the whole fleet, and their only back up is another tiny antenna installed on the command ship with the defenses of a boy scout campsite.

(not to mention a CIVILIAN fleet showing up to face off against the Star Destroyer mega MILITARY fleet.) 🤦‍♂️

I have no issues with how the characters were acted just how everything got chopped edited up. Ben is my opinion, the best-played character, though.

Princess Lea is now a Jedi master but (as per force Ghost Luke) gave up her Light saber right after her training. So, what was she doing that made her a Jedi Master? I like this idea, but it just needs to be flushed out as a story arch instead of Rey just saying “Yes Master” as an explanation.

Skywalker's family is wiped out, and the Emperor's granddaughter returns to where it all started to call herself a Skywalker.

This movie should have been a lot better than it was, and even a director's cut won’t fix it." - JT

My Rankings 1-10

Original trilogy

Episode IV – A New Hope (1977) TEN

I saw this movie 4 weekends in a row at a local drive-in. My mom took me back and she would just go to sleep so her boy could watch them again. Up until this point there was nothing like this and the 1st Vader appearance was so awesome because he was so badass looking. The next closet things to match it would be the Rogue One hallway scene. The movies were meant to be fun and they were fun.

Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back (1980) 9

Episode VI – Return of the Jedi (1983) 8

Prequel trilogy

Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999) 8 The main reason for this rating is Darth Maul and the fight scenes.
Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002) 7
Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005) 7

Sequel trilogy

Episode VII – The Force Awakens (2015) 7

  • This was a repackaging of the original story using new characters, it hands them off to the next generation. I can see why they did this way and has new characters that show promise for future films.

Episode VIII – The Last Jedi (2017) 4

  •   Wow what a mess

Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker (2019) 6

  • It is better than TLJ so with a bar that low it should make people very happy.

Anthology films

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) 9
Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) 7

Online and TV Series

Star Wars Rebels: 8 I have watched several seasons and even though I'm not a fan of this type of animation but it is still well done and keeps unity. Character development and story flow is awesome, it's a shame Disney cancelled it.

Mandalorian 2019

Episode 1 10

Episode 2 10

Episode 3 10

Episode 4 10

Episode 5 10

Episode 6 10

Episode 7 8 ( I not like explaining the bounty hunter robot repair and feel it was a waste of air time, hope they have a reason for it later.
